OLDWICK, N.J., December 12, 2025--AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of A (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Ratings (Long-Term ICRs) of "a+" (Excellent) of the core Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)-branded insurance subsidiaries of Elevance Health, Inc. (Elevance) (Indianapolis, IN) [NYSE: ELV], as well as most of its non-Blue-branded subsidiaries. In addition, AM Best has upgraded the FSR to A (Excellent) from A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term ICR to "a+" (Excellent)

Centene, the largest health insurer based on Affordable Care Act Marketplace enrollment and hospital operator HCA Healthcare were the worst-performing S&P 500 stocks early Monday after a weekend deal toward ending the government shutdown left the fate of expiring ACA subsidies unsettled. Meanwhile, the overall S&P 500 rallied strongly on expectations that the government reopening will give the economy a needed shot in the arm.
